Black drongo

Characteristics

Both sexes of the black drongo have the same body coloration, which is glossy black. The beak is short and is hooked downwards at the tip. The tail feathers are exceptionally long and forked like a mermaid tail. The black drongo has great flying skills and is commonly known as “oo-tshiu” in Taiwanese.
Habits: The black drongo is aggressive and often seen chasing other birds. It prefers to inhabit treetops or other high places and mainly feeds on insects.
Resident/Common; Body length: 29 cm
Birdwatching period: all year round
